Usually you can use a copyrighted item in material that will not be sold for profit. You should contact the publisher — this information is available online — clarify.

Yes, you can.
If you wish to you can write and ask them. but mostly you can for things like this.,
There are many images available on the web anyway…that are similar…or get some students to take the original and ‘fix’ it to make it different..
You can also run a competition and have the students/community design the Program cover..that is even better.

If the image is not in public domain, sellign the program would violate Fair Use and require you to license the image from the copyright holder.
