Really I believe they are nothing more than their expectations for what they hoped to see. I can see where you’re coming from, though, but I don’t think any connection was intended by Lewis.

Doesn’t Ed say snakes?
Lucy- Badgers are known for being nice
Edmund- Foxes are known for being sly and untrustworthy
Susan- Rabbits are known for being clever
Peter- Eagles are known for being majestic and powerful
Each of these characteristics of the animals also describe the roles each of the children play in LWW.
Edit: supersmart;), that statement is one of contention. The books have been pubished in two orders: chronologically (The Magician’s Nephew, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Horse and his Boy, The Silver Chair, The Last Battle) and in order of publication (The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair, The Horse and His Boy, The Magician’s Nephew). The books can be read in either order, and it is merely an issue of personal preference.
