Ms. Lear is the author of Rachel Carson: Witness for Nature (Holt, 1997), winner of the 1998 prize for the best book on women in science and a compelling biography that illuminates the origin of Rachel Carsons connection with nature and her determination to save what she loved. Her most recent work, Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature (St. Martins Press, 2007), is the first adult biography of the 20th centurys most beloved childrens writer and illustrator. Chatham University awarded Ms. Lear an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in 2007. She was named inaugural Pontious Distinguished Lecturer in 2009 through the generosity of Dorothy A.
