It’s fascinating isn’t it, not only do antique wall clocks keep you right on time, they also have the ability to take you back to times gone by.
Can you remember for instance, your old school clock? I remember my own, a large clock with a faded white face, roman numerals, a wood frame and when I close my eyes I can picture the scene around me, the school desks, the chatter of my school friends, the the sun’s rays streaming through the window, interesting how that always happens whenever the memories are good.
Or what about the clock in your kitchen area when you were growing up, I recall that as well, a small wooden one that sat on a ledge, I can see it right now as I hear my Mum pottering about in the kitchen.
My grandparents had this amazing grandfather clock that used to chime on the hour and on the half hour, you never had to actually look at the clock to know exactly what time it was. It was a fine specimen of an antique, made from walnut I believe, we still have it in the family but I can even now imagine my grandparents if I shut my eyes and let myself drift back in time.
The memories are countless and very vibrant, after all, how many times each day do we look at a clock!
There are various different types of clocks available today, digital clocks, large clocks, atomic clocks and of course there are so many beautiful antique clocks available but these generally come with quite a hefty asking price. Even so, you don’t need to pay a top price to recreate your memories as all types of vintage clocks come as a reproduction at a fraction of the price of an original antique.
Good luck in your clock research, You might want to start in ebay as there are generally antiques and vintage wall clocks available and I was quite pleasantly surprised to discover recently that Amazon has an extensive selection of modern clocks as well as reproduction clocks.
